![]() ![]() | Which torch- 10 or 18W ? Hi I need an advice. I’ve always been reasonably happy with my Green Force FII 50W torch. It has never let me down and proved to be sufficient for the sort of diving I’ve been doing- mainly wreck diving where you need neither a very long burn time nor a very bright torch. However, I found it much worse than HID for signalling (it is just not visible when it is a lot of ambient light), and I am thinking about a cave course some time in the future. Now, Phill Divingniknaks Christmas deal made me think about a possible upgrade to a HID. It seems that Salvo torches are the best torches around at the moment. And I am sure that 18 W is in general better than 10 W. However it is almost twice more expensive, and I just cannot afford to spend 750 quid on it. So, here is the question: Will Salvo 10 W be good enough for most applications, or there are really serious reasons to wait and go for 18 W sometime in the future ? Thanks Alex |

| New Member | I just bought a Salvo 9A/24W HID. I used to have DR 10W HID. The difference is incredible. A fellow diver from Finland has 10 and 21 watt Salvos and has made some comparisons. -- Aki |

| Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | Thanks for comparisons Aki, I'd lost that link myself. Glad you like your Salvo ![]() Alex, I'm biased right but the 18W is a stunning light. Where's Davey Willo when you need him, he's honest as well. ! .

If you want a 10W light, Divingniknaks will offer that same gaurantee wthout Barry behind us. Now beat that ! Help you make your mind up at all ?

| New Member | Get the 18 Salvo I just did tech1 in a team of three everyone else had 18watt i had a 10watt halycon on shallow dives it was a lot harder for me to signal as it just seemed so much weaker. On the deeper 45m dive it didn't seem as bad but i eventually want to do cave1 where everyone should have the same strength beam so getting 18watt Salvo when fix 10w and sell it. |

Thanks Alex there is a Halcyon 18watt Pro6 on Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Halcyon-18-Wat...QQcmdZViewItem In my experience I have found the 10watt (Halcyon or Salvo) with an extended reflector to be perfectly adequate for UK trimix applications. No complaints from buddies with 18watt lamps either. Regards, Mark. Last edited by MarkEm; November 30th, 2005 at 01:59 AM. |

| Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | I know I have an interest here but ........... Thats a Lead Acid light with a V large canister. Just so Alex knows ! Not comparable to the new Helios or Salvo range of NImH lights weight wise at least. See trying to be fair and mention the H lights as well ![]() Just a thought. Edited Can't spell at this time of night / morning
