DUI Thinsulate Ultra 400 vs. Weezle Extreme plus

Hi,

I'm looking for a new undersuit and was wondering if anyone has experience in both of these undersuits and could provide some cons and pros?

Thx,
Aki

Can't give you my own personal experience, but i know people that use both. AFAIK The weezle relies on loft for warmth and so doesn't work well in areas that are compressed (eg your chest while horizontal), where as the 400 grm thinsulate as a v. compressed fibre, provides all round more insulation.

Regarding manufacturers, there are several 400grm undersuit guys around, polar bears do a good one that'll keep you warm, unless you're built like a very skinny, short rake... eh pete?

Hi,

Just sold my Weezle, when you run your suit tight (as we should) they just don't provide the thermal protection you're looking for.

I went back to thinsulate and it's toasty warm.

Hope that helps

Cheers

I would go Thinsulate over Weezle. I actually had an episode where the Weezle blocked my exhaust valve and I could not vent gas from the suit. 200G or 400G from DUI or the Andys TR1000 or TR2000, or the Diving Concepts UGs are nice.

Thanks for the answers. I'll start looking for 400g Thinsulate then.

Try here for Polar Bears.

I had a very long chat with them at the Seawork show earlier in the year and they come over as a very good company.

Hi Gary,

What type of thinsulate is that though?

Fraser.

Hewe is the info from the website (currently down ?):-

Northern Diver has recently added significant new products to its undergarment range. With the addition of the State-of-the-Art Flectalon undersuit range we have brought diving undersuits into the 21st. Century. These undersuits are not available anywhere else in the world, only from Northern Diver.
  • Flectalon is a lightweight, high performance insulating material designed to reduce air movement and reflect thermal radiation.
  • Flectalon retains its insulative qualities when wet or compressed and the quilt construction retains thermal integrity throughout the life of the garment.
  • Regular insulators breakdown after frequent washing. Flectalon outlasts all hollow-fibre undersuit insulators.
  • Reflects Body Heat Back to the Diver.
  • 100% Breathable.
  • Insulates Totally.
  • Ultra Lightweight.
  • Quick-Drying.
  • Bacteria & Fungus Resistant.
  • Fleece Lined.
  • Ultimately Durable.

A buddy of mine went from an Andys UG to the DUI 400G and he was amazed at how bouyant the DUI stuff is. I guess I am really glad I still dive with my Pro-14.
