| GUE Instructor Site Admin | Suunto Vyper Gauge I mentioned that I was sending my gauge off to Suunto as I was concerned that it might not be functioning properly. It started a while ago when Fraser and I went to the Red Sea and it became a standing joke that I always recorded at least 1 metre more than him on every dive. He started calling me depth junkie Then, on my TDI trimix course if I recall correctly, someone said that I called some of the stops at 'rather strange depths' on a long ascent. I figured that I must have been having an off day. A short while later, I refused to let a buddy switch to 50 per cent when requested as I read him as being deeper than 22 metres. On the surface he said it wasn't that deep - I dismissed it again - but made a mental note to check my data on the computer at home. It was fine. Slightly disturbed by this, on long 6 meter stops I often glanced at gauges of other team members - and was satisfied to see them reading the same as mine. I checked my gauge against others all the way through our course in Mexico when on deco - and we were fine - yet when I came back to the UK I did a series of mix dives and always recorded the deepest profile of the team. I then dived with another guy and was asked why I had called deco just shallow of each normal stop.... OK - call me dense - but by now I was starting to see a pattern. I sent off the gauge to Suunto and, this afternoon, a parcel was brought to my desk. In it was a new Suunto - replaced under warranty despite the fact that mine was 18 months old. It turns out mine was showing deeper than it should be - but as a percentage of depth which meant that in the shallows it was OK but the deeper I went the less accurate it was. Full marks to Suunto - less full marks to me who should have worked it out earlier - and a warning to all I suppose. At least it was showing deeper - better than the alternative.

| New Member | Funny you mention this Clare as Ive had similar deco 'arguments' with buddies on occasion too. We are all on Suunto Vypers as well. I must keep an eye on it over the next few dives and see if it seems to be mine compared to the rest of the group, or someone elses. |

| New Member | does anyone have contact details for Suunto? My Vyper has started playing up as well. Doesn't turn on automatically when the dive starts and has started showing 0m when I'm actually at 6m or so. I've looked on the Suunto website and can only see service agents. Does anyone have an email address or telephone number for Suunto in the UK? thanks Richard |

Can't help with the address, but I also had my vytec do this once - turned out I'd strapped it on a little too tight so the water contacts and pressure sensors weren't exposed enough. |

| New Member | I'm using a Deep Sea Suply Vyper mount held on with 3mm bungee. This isn't that tight but I may try moving it around if it malfunctions again. http://www.deepseasupply.com/page18.html |
