I recently purchased a new torch after weeks of fretting, thinking and worry. Is it for me, is it what i wan't can i justify this torch etc.

After research, brilliant advice and pestering certain people i came to a conclusion and purchased the Light Monkey 21w 5.7 HID from Deep Ideas.

I just want to say that i was thoroughly impressed, amazed and hugely satisfied with the service from Deep Ideas and the inital quality of the LM torch. I have bought a lot of things over the years (some may say too much ), but i was over the mood with the service i was given and the continual communication. I would recommend them to anyone for products and advice - i may now get lynched if they get constant queries!

This is somewhat of a new venture for me as i'm not a complete tech head who has done all the DIR courses etc - though this is a route i wish to pursue but i felt the purchase would suit my needs and allow me to further pursue the diving i wish to.

I'm due to give the torch a blast this weekend up in Wales (cold i know) so will feed back if anyone has any queries.

I just felt i should share my experience and happiness with everyone regarding the service and product (especially as i have done my share of questioning)!

I would Would definitely recommend Deep Ideas, the crunchie choc bar was an added bonus!

I will keep you guys and gals posted.

G

I was very impressed with the torch however sadly it was a short lived experience.

The torch only worked for about 10 mins... The bulb had exploded within the test tube!!!! Very odd. Have spoken to DI who are unsure of the cause and will be looking at the torch soon. They are just as surprised as this apparently has never happened before. Hand on heart this wasn't down to a user error! I have been told it could potentially be a flawed bulb.

The torch was brilliant for the short time, tight and bright beam and penetrated the terrible vis of northern Wales. A bit disappointed that i was unable to use it for the whole weekend so will be very keen to hear back from DI and LM.

Willl update further.

If you dont mind me asking what was your key deciding factor between the LM 21w 5.7amh and the 21w 10 amh? Was it budget or something else?

Reason i ask, because i'm trying to decide between the two LM models listed above. Fundamentally its the same torch (i think) just with different battery pack/burn time? I think the 2.75 hour burntime would be enough but just wondered on what someone elses take would be?

How did you get in with Deep Ideas??

I have always found the level of customer service to be top notch!!

Burn time neede depends of course on your type of diving. For cave diving you want at least 1.5 times the dive time, two cave dives a day will soon add up to 3 hours of in water time so 4 hours is minimum needed.

I have the LM 21 W with a 20 amp can. I would not go less than the 10 amp can personally. The extra burn time never hurts on a weekend of diving.

With a 21w light and 10 amh battery pack you get a four hour burn time. My logic for buying this was it'll give me four 1 hour dives over a typical club weekend and if I get my backside in gear and do Tech1 it'll comfortably give me two 1 1/2 hour dives over the course of a weekend. If I ever progress to anything more than that and I can charge over night. That was my justification for spending a sum that made me feel guilty on what is basically a posh torch! 18 months down the line I've not regretted it for a second! :-)

Just a final update for those who are remotely interested in my SAD spending life!

Torch now returned in fully working order -

To add and comment to peoples comments:

My choice, after great thought and discussion; It was made due to the diving i do and monetary of course! For my needs (non caving - just wreck and open water), the 5.7 is ample.

Very happy with Deep Ideas as expected and no doubt will spend more of my hard earnt cash with them!

Good to know that everyone else has been happy with their torch!

Cheers
