![]() | KIT for DIR F I read in the advice thread to practise in the kit you will use for the course. Does this mean I will need to buy all new kit before the course. Could some one tell me what I will need? Currently I have a Buddy Commando and a 12k Cylinder and a 3l Pony. I have APECS Regs,a Scubapro mask and JETFINs. Tony |

| GUE Instructor Site Admin | Hi Tony - if you want to do DIR F the best thing you can do is to get in touch with one of the instructors. You will need a single piece harness and wing to get the most out of DIR F but any kit you need can be borrowed - either from Rich or one of us. Invest in a good pair of heavy solid fins though (Jetfins or copies are best) and a low profile mask to make your life easier on the course. With regard to your regs, you will need to dve a long hose but your existing regs can be configured well enough to start with. If you do the course and decide that you want to do more with GUE then you can look to replace stuff slowly as and when you can afford it. PS - you don;t have to have a torch - so no telling the wife or the girlfriend that it is a course requirement ![]()

Wives don't. unless they're diving wives. in which case you've got to get a good one who understands - otherwise no amount of lying(erm. bending the truth) will be good enough..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Of course you can also borrow equipment "from friends". Fraser is currently loaning me a stage and a twinset! ![]() To come back to the original question, do borrow some gear and get some dives on it before fundies if at all possible. I'm sure we could cobble complete rigs together from the spares from the members on the board. Cheers Al |

| Moderator | Like the others have said - borrow a BP and Wings. Your regs, fins, mask are fine. One piece of advice that should of used - don't practice what you think the skills are before the class. The instructor is going to show you how to do the skills during class. It is much easier to learn from scratch than having to unlearn bad habits to learn the "Right" way. Take Care Eric |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you can get to observe and dive with DIR divers before the course then do so, it will really open your eyes. I had the pleasure of diving with Clare, I think she may have been a bit confused as I was only interested in watching her dive, not do drills etc. However the amount I observed was worth a fortune. (Thanks C.) So if the opportunity is there GRAB IT. Last edited by Clare Gledhill; November 22nd, 2005 at 09:19 PM. |

| GUE Instructor Site Admin | I was just worried you were looking at my bum Martin ![]() Seriously though, most of us are happy to meet up to ensure that if you are practicing the drills before DIR F that you are at least practicing them the GUE way.
