DIR-F Pass/Fail question

OK, I haven't found a definite answer yet, but I'm sure I can get one here.

If you take DIR-F, and fail, not provisional, but fail, do you have to retake the whole course again in order to be evaluated? Or can you practice what you have learned and be reevaluated...

Thanks

Hi Matt,

There are three outcomes from fundies:

Pass - Well done!
Provisional - You've got the basics, go away and sharpen you skills. Come back for a re-evaluation when you feel you've improved.
Fail - Unfortunately you need to resit the course.

So yes a fail is retake the whole course. However don't be concerned about it. It's best to approach the course to learn and try not to worry about the pass/fail nature.

Think they are getting rid of the provisional pass anyway with the new DIR-F. Not 100% sure though.

Cheers

'There is also a change in the 'qualification' from DIR-F too. There will no longer be a provisional pass, you either pass it or fail! However, there will be 2 levels of pass F-Rec or F-Tech. The latter is for full torch, twinset, good finning and bouyancy control and generally a more rounded DIR diver. The Rec pass is for someone who might have most of the skills nailed but might be a bit weaker in one, say finning. This qual would also be for someone who attends the fundie course on a single cylinder or without a torch.'

Not quite true.

You will not pass unless you fulfill all the requirements, the Rec qualification is not the equivilent to the Provisional. Basically the Rec qual is the same as a current pass. (AIUI) the Tech Qual is slightly harder, and must be done in a tech rig (i.e twinset, primary lamp, backup lamps).

Point taken, but there is still a loss of 'provisional' pass so it is going to be pass or retake the whole course.

cheers

There was discussion about the provisional qualification, however I'm not sure if it has been officially dropped. Either way, it is down to the instructor as to whether you need to retake the whole course.
