![]() | DecoPlanner I'm thinking of buying the DecoPlanner 3.1.4 from the GUE site, I'm just starting down the road into deco dives. I've had a look at an earlier version from GUE and the deco plan it worked out was quite good, and also the way that you could change the deco format around to give you a different deco profile or allow for a different scenario. Any feed back on what other divers think of it would be appreciated? |

![]() ![]() | Save money, learn Ratio Deco here instead . . .not only is it more useful and easy to implement in your head at depth during a contingency where you have to recalculate your Deco Profile on-the-fly; but it's easy to pre-plan or re-plan a profile in certain circumstances where having laptop or PDA Deco Software is not practical (i.e. in a small outrigger bangka diveboat off the Luzon Philippine Coast during a rain squall in the South China Sea). . .

Hmm, would they have the standard gasses in those places? A good PDA can go for weeks, you can calculate your deco and adjust on the fly.... the ideal situation.

Yes and Yes: Standard bottom & deco gases are available; get your head out of the Cave once-in-a-while Meng Tze: there's a very beautiful Ocean out there. . . (and can a PDA withstand repeated inadvertent salt water dousings?)

| New Member | Deco Planner & Ratio G'day, Use both. Make a plan with Deco Planner, check/modify with Ratio deco and then be prepaired to adjust on the fly if required. I recommmend Deco Planner. While you pay, it also has other features that you will find you need later like Gas Planner. I have used HLplanner and V planner and found both of them both un-user friendly. Using Ratio Deco you use your brain as the computer. It enables you to adjust on the fly if required and enables you to modify Computer or Table generated plans. I especially try to take advantages of 'Oxygen Windows' when decompressing so often shift some shallow deco into an oxygen window at 21m. I do keep backup plans in my wet notes as a matter of course (no deco gas plans especially) and they have saved my arse a few times, even if the boat Captain chewed my arse of later for over exceeding my Run Time. Either way, Safe Diving Dave |

![]() ![]() | G'day, I concur . . .use Deco Planner as a sanity check for the first few Pre-Dive profiles you derive with Ratio Deco. (Except just borrow your friend's computer and Deco Planner software --no need to purchase it yourself!)Use both. Either way, Safe Diving Dave For Pre-Dive Gas Planning (and Blending as well), you can easily make a spreadsheet macro program for yourself in MS Excel. But in the "field" (i.e. a bouncing wet bangka diveboat in the South China Sea), you've got to learn how to calculate these initial values & profiles by yourself. No laptop computer; No PDA; No Pocket Calculator --just wetnotes, a pencil, and good ol' basic manually applied four operator arithmetic. . .
