Book recommendations?

Hi all,

Getting seriously drawn into caves - I have read the staple Sheck books, and currently reading Taming of the Slough and Cave Diving Communications. Does anyone have a good recommendation for something a little more geological?

Thanks,

Fraser.

The best book i've ever found about Karst geology is "Le Jura" by Michel Blant, published by delachaux et niestle. ISBN 2.603.01218.5.

It's in French. If you can find out where to get a copy, let me know because I'd like one too!

Hi Bob,

Good to see you on the board, my French is not great and I think coupled with lots of technical terminology I might struggle with a French geology reference

Rick, I've read those Sheck Exley books, might see if I can get hold of Beyond the Darkness then.

Cheers,

Fraser.

Superb book - well recommended - although I know Frase already has a copy.

I just finished Beyond the Darkness and Farr's other one (forgot the name)

The earlier one is a good read, but a lot of it is dedicated to "bottom walking." The descriptions of the kit those guys had to wear/invent are amazing though! I found it a bit dated (the '90s section really felt like it was tacked on and could really do with some serious expandin).

Definitely worth the money though.

The newer book was not so good -- mainly focused on gear/training and not very DIR (although in a lot of places he starts of making a veiled slur on DIR "some people say" you should all have standard equipment etc. but it's a matter of preference, then later on in the chapter says "but it's a really really good idea to all have the same gear, or be streamlined/have good team communications" etc
