WKPP: Turner, 1 July 06 Exploration

After the long dark spell we had to sit through since 2000, the WKPP is taking every opportunity to push the limits of exploration in the Leon Sinks/Wakulla systems while conditions are favorable. The team turned once again to Turner Sink on the weekend of July 1, and (again) succeeded in surveying close to another mile of tunnel in the push towards Wakulla. We've posted an extended dive report for the weekend, along with a gallery of images from both before and during the dive:

From Casey McKinlay's summary of the day's work:

"Turner Sink and Leon Sinks were still going strong and while we did not match the 6,000ft added on June 3, we managed almost another mile of cave heading south-southeast towards Wakulla. We were closing the gap and the reality of connecting the Leon Sinks and Wakulla Cave Systems was seriously within reach. The data was immediately plotted and confirmed Leon was closing in on Wakulla."

Congratulations!
When I read the report I'm thrilled to know the outcome.
It feels the are so so close to connecting the two.
