Question Wanted! DIR divers at Cunhac 19/08/07

Hi list

Dove yesterday with my "strokes" friends divers Cunhac (Ressel 2) and met two German DIR divers.

The guy was from near Toulouse and the girl is from Hambourg, they use a mini van.
We came in two cars a Focus SW black, and a WV Polo.

I have a lot of cave to show you

Please if you reconize, contact me

David

So the terminology "strokes" still gets used?? I am very disapointed to see that, and further disapointed to see that no one else on here has said owt to the poster!

It crops up occasionally, but usually in jest by people that know each other. I suspect nobody commented in this case because the comment was in quotes and stated the divers were his friends, so I for one took this as a tongue-in-cheek way to refer to the fact his friends were not DIR trained rather than an insult.

I did see that it was written in quotation marks however it is a word that caused a lot of disharmony between non DIR and DIR divers that I would have thought it would be a word that best not be used, especially as DIR philosphy is becoming more acceptable to non DIR divers.

(wow that was one long sentence without a full stop!!)

Not everyone that comes onto this site has had the probe inserted yet and are still gaining more understanding of what GUE/DIR is about and may be put off by terminology.

Just my 2p worth.

Yazzy, you will also find that if you type the word in without the use of quotes or stars then the word is blocked out.

As has been said on YD and probably here, the only times that most DIR divers use the word str0ke is to describe another DIR diver who is being a kn0b or doing something not quite right (but not dangerous); it is said in jest and no malice is intended.

Like any group that is out there, a language or slang develops and people get used to it. When people see Garf, Howard and I at a dive site, they think we are about to kick off and have fight - nothing could be further from the truth (although Howard can be a tw@t at times ) it is just the way we get on.

If David had used the word maliciously then we would have had a word with him, or edited the post ourselves (Mods) directly.

Remember the gollywog on jamjars its became not PC people talked about it for years. I hear the word "Str0ke" quite often but never in anger. I think the same will happen over time. soon we will have a new more insulting term to use :-)

poeple are like that.

David

OK OK let me explain.

For me "******" is only kind of joke term. This guy is a pity to dive with and a buddy of mine. We try to help him improve his skills (in the french way for my other friends, and I try in the "DIR" way)

This time this guy made a lot of mess with our gas plan, only motivated to take pictures of the ground in Cunhac, he doesn't even bother about lifting the silt with his fins so it's why I nammed him like this.

We decided to let him dive by his own (standard way to do in France) and we were surprised to find him in the place we left him in the cave after 1hour of diving.

He's really good diver but not in the DIR way to do, he goes in clear water and come back in clouds and says "that's clear getting inside, but the exist was silty..." It's the old school of french cave diving style, sorry for that.

By posting this thread, sorry I was looking for a contact with other divers,I didn't throught about putting a mess and disturbing somebody with my misandurstood english terms.

Accept all my apologise for this kind of term.

Diving even in old scool cave style or DIR, or other, doesn't bother me, I like to share good moment with friends, see and show beautiful parts of earth and come back safely to see my family for doing an other dive as soon as possible.

Cheers.

David
