There have been a few questions about the purpose of this list from divers who are uncomfortable about non DIR topics or experiences (thinking particularly about the rebreather thread). The moderators thought it would be helpful to clarify.

This is no purpose of this list beyond making space available to divers to discuss DIR approaches to diving - and to question it in a forum where flaming on an anti DIR basis will not be tolerated.

Each of the moderators are GUE trained and committed to the principles behind DIR diving. But all DIR X offers to each of you is space on the internet to meet up and talk. The topics covered by the board are down to you... if they are not what you wish to see then post about what you wish to discuss.

We are fortunate to have contributions from many experienced divers and GUE representatives. I personally consider that we gain from those who question the basis of some of what we do. In my own experience, I find that debate helps me think through the proceedures which I take for granted - over and over confirming to me that we do what we do not because we are blindly following another's whim - but that there are sound reasons for the proceedures we follow.
