Aah - interesting. I can see the advantage of this in that the hip D-ring is easier to get to (is this still the case if you have stages? - I guess since the stages are also clipped off there it must be okay). What (apart from the clip itself) do you have running between the flaked DSMB in the storage pouch and the D-ring, though. Presumably you don't want things flapping about too much!
yes, I used it with SPG, 2 AL80 stages and a reel clipped to the hip.
It takes some organizing, but works just fine.
I clip the lift bag right at the bottom of the D-ring so it lays flat against my body and the SPG goes on top of that, stages added above.

My lift bag actually has a piece of webbing from the bottom of the bag to the clip which is just the perfect length to clip at the hip. (I use the open 60lb halcyon liftbag and used the 4.5ft. SMB before which IIRC also has a long enough piece of webbing)
This webbing generally runs between my body and the wreck argon bottle so nothing's flapping. but works just as fine with cave argon setup.

To get it just reach your SPG, pull it up if you have to to expose the lift bag clip, clip it off and pull the bag straight out.

I prefer it this way, but none of my buddies do this :-) however, don't think any of them even tried it either ;-)

One tip already mentioned before... don't push the bag all the way up the storage pack, that makes it very hard to pull it out.
I always folded it into a square package the width of the storage pack opening with the dump valve facing and fitting in the groove of the back plate and left ~2cm hanging out from the bottom of the storage pack.
