I can see the advantage of this in that the hip D-ring is easier to get to (is this still the case if you have stages? - I guess since the stages are also clipped off there it must be okay). What (apart from the clip itself) do you have running between the flaked DSMB in the storage pouch and the D-ring, though. Presumably you don't want things flapping about too much!
