You can use a bowline for the loops at either end of your spool line or at the end of your reel. It's more scure than the ubiquitous overhand (thumb) knot on the bight. Personally I use a figure-of-eight on the bight for these.

I use an artillery hitch to secure a buoy and tension the line

Apart from that we pretty much use thumb and reef knots to assemble tie-ons
