Depends what you are sealing. O rings on your reg tend to be 90 shore A EPDM or nitrile. Sometimes viton but personally I prefer EPDM for O2 use as viton gives off some real nasties when burning. For light cannisters then a softer material would be better, say a 70 shore A nitrile as you need to conpress it a little. Dont bother with silicone (too soft and easily damaged), polyurethane (too expensive), PTFE (too hard and has no memory), any of the flouro compounds (incredibly expensive). Nitrile should be fine and they are pennies.
