The only things I'd add to what Clare has written are:

Has your torch got a goodman handle? If not then you will need to get one.

Clare is right to say ditch the CO2 blob (for the course anyway) as you don't really want something that could automatically generate a bunch of lift somewhere unexpected. We do sometimes take back-up blobs, it all depends on the dive plan, and what the skipper expects from us. However if you plan your dive correctly (which is covered on the courses) then you should never need a "yellow blob"
