Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.

So, basically, it's just a bit of a V-weight which attaches to the lower bolt of the doubles bands (& below/above the lower bands ie lower than the lower bands or between the bands) which, obviously, gives a counter weight to the slightly neck heavy Fabers to facilitate good trim. Of course, there are variations on this theme (pouches etc) which have the same effect, however, all in all, the tail-weight is all part of your non-ditchable ballast.

Presumably (thinking out loud as it were), given where the weight ends up positioned with a tail weight, then (moving) some weight on to a belt (within the override of the total weight requirement) would achieve almost the same purpose?
